Monitoring a Child's Technology Is Modern Parenting

Like most things, when it comes to a family’s policy on technology, there’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach. What one family deems necessary, another may find inadequate, while yet another assumes is way overboard. It wasn’t until I started digging into Trepid Tech Mom that I formed an opinion on the topic and that is: monitoring children's technology, in one form or another, is an essential part of modern parenting.

The New Zealand Shooting | Sadness. Outrage. Action.

With violence and hatred, sadness and shock can quickly turn to outrage followed by questions like, how are we going to make the Internet a safer place? How do we talk with our children about tragedies in age-appropriate ways? How do we prevent gun violence from happening again? While I don’t have all the answers to these questions, I hope you’ll join me in trying to turn energy into ACTION.

My Fellow Trepid Tech Mom: You Are Not Alone

Wow. It's been just over a year since I wrote my first Trepid Tech Mom blog. In the beginning, speaking up as a Trepid Tech Mom, I worried. And while some worries have become a reality, I’m oddly okay with that because one, in particular, turned into something spectacular: Trepid Tech Moms are everywhere. The Day I Caught a Stranger Photographing My Child

At a college sporting event yesterday, as my toddler and I were walking back to our seats after halftime, I noticed a stranger photographing my child. The older gentleman had his smartphone out, pointed directly at us with my daughter clearly in the camera’s crosshairs. Why am I sharing this story with you? Well, I learned a few lessons that I thought I’d pass along.

This Trepid Tech Mom is here to share a few super simple things to do when temps dip to dangerous levels — besides dive into smartphones and other devices. The best part is, you probably have everything you need!

Social Media: "Stealer of Thunder"

The other day, something prompted me to remember a story about a little kid on the first day of school. The thought of this story sprang up while touring a local preschool when our guide made the statement, “You can join a Facebook Group that shows pictures and shares what your child does here each day.” It was at that moment I felt my mind begin to wander as I realized social media steals children’s thunder … and we, adults are often at fault. I’ve been haunted by this realization ever since.

Snap That “I Voted” Selfie, But Think Twice Before You Do It With Your Ballot.

We’re on the home stretch when it comes to the 2018 midterm elections, folks. Whether you’ve been canvassing, calling and chatting with others about the candidates vying for our votes, or you’re just waiting for Nov. 6 to be here and gone, this Trepid Tech Mom is here to encourage us all to do two things: 1) Rock the vote. Do it early and often, as they say. 2) Go ahead and snap that “I voted” selfie, but think twice before you do it with your ballot.

Stranger Safety Kids Books

While at the library with the kiddos the other day, I decided to check out a few "safety" books about things like what kids should do if they get lost, as well as how to stay safe around strangers. Much to my surprise one included a page about Internet safety!
